Michael Wiggins
Providing his clients with not only legal, but practical solutions to fit their legal needs, Michael focuses his practice primarily on estate and business formation/succession planning, real estate transactions and litigation, and general commercial law. Michael graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular/Cellular Biology in 1997, and after working in the mobile commerce technology field for a time, he attended the Seattle University School of Law in 2001. Immediately upon graduating from law school, Michael began his career with Romero Montague P.S., and has since worked his way through the ranks to become Romero Park & Wiggins' Vice-President and Director of Marketing.
Within his career, Michael has successfully represented clients in hundreds of matters in both state and federal court, including:
- Successfully represented the largest condominium association in Washington State against claims brought by its homeowners alleging that the association had improperly assessed dues for the upkeep and maintenance of common areas and facilities. Jury returned verdict for the association and obtained from the Court the association’s attorney’s fees.
- Represented a publicly-traded grocery store chain in its defense against a $40,000,000 dollar lawsuit brought by a developer for breach of a commercial lease. After a jury trial, client ended up paying the developer nothing.
- Represented professional services organization who was a creditor in a bankruptcy proceeding wherein the organization held secured interests to certain real property owned by the debtor. Was able to negotiate payment for secured interest short of trial.
- Successfully represented prime contractor against claims made by homeowner for alleged breach of contract on million dollar construction/remodel project. Was able to settle the claims on very favorable terms.
- Successfully represented bankruptcy trustee of a publicly traded company in suit for damages brought about by insurance agent’s failure to represent company’s interests when renewing commercial property insurance policy; and represented same trustee in company’s claim against insurance company for bad faith breach of contract related to the same commercial property insurance policy.
- Represented numerous real estate development and contracting company’s in their formations and contract negotiations. Have also represented those same companies in contract disputes involving payment for services rendered on both large and small construction contracts.
- Have provided estate planning services for estates worth millions of dollars.
Whether negotiating a real estate purchase and sale agreement, counseling a mother and father on how best to protect their money for their children's' educations, or arguing an easement dispute or a real property insurance claim in state or federal court, Michael provides each client with the same aggressive, yet reasoned and practical approach to solving legal issues. Licensed in both Washington and Oregon, Michael, in conjunction with the other attorneys at Romero Park & Wiggins, is able to provide these services to his clients all up and down the West Coast and in Utah.
When Michael is not fulfilling his duties as attorney, and Romero Park & Wiggins' Vice President and Director of Marketing, Michael loves to spend his time, first and foremost, with his wife and 4 children. In his spare time, he loves to cycle and play the guitar. In the past, he has served on the Board of the Brigham Young University's Marriott School of Business' Management Society, and he currently volunteers his time as a Reserve Police Officer with the City of Des Moines, Washington Police Department.
If there is anyway that Michael can help you with your estate planning, real estate, or general commercial litigation needs, please do not hesitate to contact him. He's here to help you and your company achieve success.
